Hello DI Families,
The Golden Nerd Herd middle school team is nearly complete with their story concept for the Pace Of Change Team Challenge scheduled on Saturday March 12th. The team is planning on creating a hovercraft and ramp using leaf blowers, common building materials (plywood, 2x4s, thick vinyl and fasteners). In addition, they are planning on creating the background settings as well as costumes.
In anticipation of the building effort for the next two weeks, we are planning on holding the team building sessions each day after school (Monday - Friday, 3:30 through 5:30 PM). The leaders are coordinating schedules to ensure at two people between Mrs. Gamache, Mrs. Zayti, and myself are always resident to guide the team in their building activities.
The team has a project budget of $200 to build their hovercraft, costumes, scenery, and supporting props. Purchasing all new items can easily push the teams budget past the budget. We are also aware that donated or loaned items can be significantly discounted and... are now calling upon donations for the following items to aid the team in their building efforts. If you are able to donate any of these items, please reply to ALL to keep the lines of communication open to all recipients. A list of the common items that are requested are as follows:
Hovercraft
Ramp
Backdrop
Props
Supplies
Costumes
I've attached a list of the items developed by the team for your perusal. For a preview for the teams hovercraft, check out the Build Your Own Hovercraft video that inspired their idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yFMF1sSb2E .
The leaders look forward to a hosting a fantastic and dynamic team. We graciously appreciate your donations and volunteer support.
And finally, tomorrow from approximately 9-4:30 Region 3 is having their tournament at Henry Ford High School in Utica. I know there has been some interest in popping in to see what a competition looks like. If you have time, it would be an awesome opportunity.
